     Welcome to Bundarra

Bundarra is a close-knit rural community, 582 km north of Sydney and 378 km south-west of Brisbane, on the road between Armidale (88 km to the south-east) Uralla (76 km to the south east) and Inverell (47 km to the north) and is 660 m above sea-level. Bundarra acts as a service-centre for the surrounding district and, as our welcome sign says, we love our kids!

Bundarra takes its name from the Gamilaraay/Yuwaalaraay word bandaarr (grey kangaroo) (Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay Dictionary). Kangaroos were abundant in the area. The Bundarra Aboriginals were a part of the Anaiwan language group. It is thought that the totem for the Bundarra Aboriginals was the Black Wallaroo considered to be carrying the spirits of the Clever Men.

Bundarra, for its size, boasts more services than many small towns.

We have combined Post Office and Commonwealth Bank Agency, an Agricultural Supplies Store, and a hotel a Sporting Club and Golf Course, Rural Transaction Centre (with Centrelink access), Community Technology Centre, a General Store/Liquor/Newsagency/Gift shop and a takeaway store that’s open 7 days a week. Community Health Facilities 5 days a week including a Community Nurse, Pathology testing once monthly, podiatry, social worker and diabetes management services. Registration checks and mechanical repairs can be done in town without the need to travel to Inverell

The Commercial Hotel provides newly refurbished accommodation and restaurant class meals in a family oriented environment.

Eftpos facilities are available at the Bundarra Hotel, Bundarra General Store and Post Office .. recharge your mobile phones too!

Bundarra Central School caters for children from k-12 .

We have a police station, two churches, the Grace Munro Centre (a state of the art aged-care facility), and a brand new lot of playground equipment for kids!

Housing and blocks of land here are very affordable and a quiet alternative to city living. Our local show is held in January and is the first of the Agricultural shows for the year..making it a relaxed show for first time competitors, Goat Races in April , Horse Racing generally the October long weekend and the Rodeo and Campdraft in November.

There are many good fishing spots along the Gwydir River if you know the locals! (It is still a spot where you can catch some really big Murray cod) Bundarra also has a two camping grounds: one with powered sites and hot shower facilities, and beautiful free site on the edge of town (right on the river) for those who like to watch platypus in their native habitat and happy to rough it . There is also Kalang Camping area a little further up the road towards Inverell with riverside camping and great fishing.

If you are thinking of moving to Bundarra there are many people who are willing to help you ..especially if you are a large business or company with a need for a lot of room wanting to make the tree change

Bundarra is a great place for you, or your company to relocate to. Houses and Land prices are around a third of what you would pay in the city and combined water and land rates are still around the 1,000 mark for an average block of land.

Uralla Shire Council is more than happy to help you make the move. Uralla Shire Council welcomes new businesses to the area, and will do everything in their power to help make the transition an easy one.

Uralla Shire Council is very supportive of the communities in our area and promotes arts and musical events like the Uralla Get off Your Arts Festival, Boogie@Bundarra Festival and recent events like the Sound and Fury Comedy Team who performed at various locations around the region including the Bundarra School of the Arts Hall..
