Flora and Fauna of Bundarra

Threatened woodland bird species Turquoise Parrot, Brown Tree-creeper, Speckled Warbler, Grey-crowned Babbler, Black-chinned Honeyeater, Hooded Robin, Diamond Firetails, Regent Honeyeaters, Red-chested Button quail Painted Button-quail and Brown Quail.

A breeding colony of about 30 regent honeyeaters has established itself near Bundarra.

The Bundarra site is one of only three major breeding areas in NSW, so please take care when visiting the town not to disturb any nesting sites .

Regent Honeyeaters feed on nectar and insects within box-ironbark eucalypt forests. When they're not breeding, birds roam widely in search of these unpredictable food sources. Approximately 75% of this habitat has been destroyed by clearing, and the habitat that remains is being degraded by the continuing removal of trees. The population of the Regent Honeyeater Australia wide is less than 1,500 birds and is continuing to decline.

Platypus

Platypus

Bundarra is one of the very few places that you can sit on the river bank and watch platypus swimming, we are very fond of these little monotremes so please when you visit make sure that you dont disturb them. They are best seen just under the Bundarra bridge and at the Lions Park free camping area on the southern end of town.

Kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and long necked tortoise are abundant and are also present in the area
